The Kinema in the Woods
A century of cinema magic, hidden among the trees.
The Kinema in the Woods is an independent four-screen cinema in Woodhall Spa, combining current releases and special screenings with the atmosphere of a historic woodland picture house.
The story
The building began as a late-19th-century sports and entertainment pavilion in the grounds of the Victoria Hotel. After the hotel was destroyed by fire in 1920, the pavilion was converted into a cinema and opened in 1922.
Why it stands out
Its original auditorium still uses rear projection — described by Visit Lincolnshire as the only fully functioning cinema in the UK to do so. The venue also preserves traditional cinema character alongside modern films, four screens and special-event programming.

More than a place to watch a film, the Kinema is one of Woodhall Spa’s best-known independent attractions and helps draw visitors into the village throughout the year.
